Zimbabwean Miners Allege Abuse by Controversial Anjin 10 August, 2012On 3 August 2012, 1,500 workers at a mine controlled by Anjin Investments were fired when the labour court ruled their strike action illegal. Workers were demanding better pay and working conditions, in their eighth strike in two years. Workers were told to vacate company housing and reapply for their positions, if they wished to continue work at the mine.
Supervisor killed in a protest at Zambian Collum Mine8 August, 2012A Chinese supervisor at Collum Coal Mine in Zambia was killed and another seriously wounded after being hit by a trolley pushed at them by workers on 4 August 2012. Workers were angry that the mining company had failed to raise wages in line with new minimums set by the Zambian government.
