21 September, 2000Czech border police turn back youngsters planning to participate in anti-globalisation march in Prague.

CZECH REPUBLIC: The IMF learned today that three young Italians were rejected by border police upon entering the Czech Republic and declared persona non grata. The three were planning to take part in a demonstration against globalisation being organised by some non-governmental organisations this weekend in Prague, where G-7 countries will hold discussions on the global economy.
Reacting to this, the IMF's general secretary, Marcello Malentacchi, commented that such State police action "cannot be tolerated. Whatever we think about the demonstration, governments must not be allowed to refuse people to express their own opinion in free and democratic manifestations."
