13 December, 1999CAW boycott campaign and plant occupation have been called off.

CANADA: According to the CBC, the three-week occupation of the Molson Breweries plant in Barrie, Ontario, ended on December 12 after workers accepted a new contract (see associated link for IMF website news story of December 6). The deal provides better severance and pension packages for employees, who will lose their jobs when the plant closes next September.
The IMF-affiliated Canadian Auto Workers' union, which organised a solidarity campaign via the Internet for the 350 members who work at the Molson plant in Barrie, has said the deal provides up to 70 workers preferential hiring at a brewery in Hamilton, Ontario, while other workers will receive extra financial help. Also, the retirement age has been lowered from 55 to 50, and the severance settlement has been raised to an average of about $75,000 per worker.
The full boycott of all Molson products, put in motion by the CAW, has now been called off.
