This is a time for celebration at the IMF.
As readers will have certainly noticed, last summer we interrupted the regular publication of the "IMF News," which was first published in the 1950s and called "IMF Bulletin."
Today, we are welcoming a new IMF magazine, which we have named METAL WORLD. It will be published four times a year, to begin with only in English, and our Executive Committee will be making an evaluation of this new means of communication at its regular end-of-year meeting this December.
We hope, of course, that our affiliates as well as others are going to appreciate this newcomer and that you will read it and use it to help strengthen the entire trade union movement.
METAL WORLD is a complement to all other IMF communication instruments, such as the e-mail, website, the NewsBriefs, circular letters, meetings and conferences, etc., but can never be considered as a substitute for any of them. It is extremely important, however, that our affiliated unions, wherever they might be, have the opportunity to say what they think about our new publication and also make sure they are able to identify themselves in the magazine.
I want to stress that this is the result of a combination of many contributions which have been put together by professional staff with long journalistic experience. Both Stig Jutterström, who is responsible for the physical aspect and journalistic content, and Katherine Livas, as news editor and for linguistics, have devoted much time and energy to this new magazine.
For the future, I think it is important that we all -- our affiliates, regional offices and headquarters -- supplement them with whatever information is available and, in so doing, help them make this magazine a true forum for debate and dialogue, open to all our affiliates and their members.
You will come across in-depth interviews with interesting trade union and political leaders. You will also discover reportages from different parts of the world, as well as specific articles on hot issues, but, first and foremost, I hope you will find what you are looking for.
Welcome to METAL WORLD.
