USA: Stephen P. Yokich, president of the U.S. Autoworkers' union, UAW, expresses his strong support for the Mexican workers' struggle to win higher pay for their work at Volkswagen, Mexico. "We agree that the workers, who are responsible for the success experienced by the company, must receive the significant improvement in compensation that your unions has demanded."
We hope that you are able to reach a fair settlement very soon, the letter continues. If the UAW can be of assistance in achieving justice for Volkswagen workers, "do not hesitate to contact us. Only through the solidarity of workers will our unions be able to successfully bargain with multinational corporations to win the improvements in compensation, working conditions and living conditions that all workers deserve."
