15 November, 2000The international trade union movement has lost a friend and colleague, Rüdiger Sielaff, of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Germany.
GERMANY: Rüdiger Sielaff, of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Germany, died suddenly last Saturday, November 11, 2000, while on holiday in Turkey. He was 59 years old.
Rüdiger Sielaff was born in 1941 in Schlawe, Pommerania. After studying political science in Berlin, he started work at the research institute of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in 1966. From 1973 to 1977, he represented the FES in Malaysia. From 1977 to 1988, he worked in the FES International Department, and from 1990 he was responsible for the Asia and Pacific Department. In 1999, Rüdiger became head of the new department for the Near and Middle East and North Africa.
The death of Rüdiger Sielaff is a great loss for the entire international trade union movement, said IMF general secretary, Marcello Malentacchi. "He was a friend and colleague who worked tirelessly to defend what he believed in."
