31 May, 2001The OECD includes "workplaces, employment and transition" elements in new strategy on sustainable development.
GLOBAL: The Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD reports that, in meetings held at the OECD on May 14-17, environment, finance and economy ministers adopted a work programme on sustainable development which incorporates elements of certain trade union proposals.
The TUAC noted that the OECD Ministerial Council approved background documents which contained a number of significantly new policy directions, with respect to the trade union agenda for sustainable development overall.
Some of the highlights of these documents deal with integrating the social dimension of sustainable development into economic and environmental plans, understanding the employment implications, adopting a workplace focus, and the promotion of partnerships, a "just transition" and public health.
