SOUTH AFRICA: The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has decided to start a campaign against aids. In its Congress declaration, the union says that it needs to continue educating its members on the scourge of aids and also calls on the national centre, Cosatu, and its affiliates to participate in an action campaign on treatment. Those who are suffering must have access to cheap medication provided by the government.
Numsa will encourage its members to go for voluntary testing and for those who are HIV positive to disclose their status. In order to assist the HIV positive, Numsa will establish support groups in different workplaces.
