New president for<br>Hungarian metalworkers

7 December, 1999The Federation of Hungarian Metalworkers' Union (VASAS) has elected Károly Szoke as its new president, to succeed Lazlo Paszternak.

HUNGARY: At its 33rd National Congress, the VASAS has adopted the following programme for the upcoming years:
- closing up the Hungarian wage levels to levels of the European Union;
- validating the directions of the European Social Charter in terms of employees' rights and social conditions;
- cutting the weekly working time to 36-38 hours;
- establishing appropriate conditions for the guarantee of healthy and safe working conditions.
Károly Szoke was elected as the new president of the VASAS, and Béla Balogh and Zoltán Hòdi as vice-presidents.
