New IMF office in Moscow

2 December, 1999In order to serve its new affiliates in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the International Metalworkers' Federation will open an office in Moscow.

CIS: Since June 1999, the International Metalworkers' Federation has seven affiliates, representing more than two million members, in the CIS countries, and in the coming year, more Russian unions are expected to apply for affiliation to the IMF. For this reason, the IMF Executive Committee has decided to set up an office in Moscow in the second half of 2000.
At the same time, the current IMF regional office in Budapest will be shut down. The responsibility for running activities and keeping up contacts with the affiliates in Central Europe, the Balkan and Baltic states will be taken over by IMF headquarters in Geneva.
The person in charge of the Moscow office will be Svetla Shekerdjieva, who is presently working in the regional office in Budapest.
