15 February, 2001The USWA is scheduling a conference with IMF affiliates to discuss changes of significance in this all-important industry.
USA: The IMF-affiliated United Steelworkers of America is holding a conference for the aluminium industry in Las Vegas, Nevada, from March 5-7, 2001. This meeting will be of particular interest to those IMF affiliates with membership in the subsidiaries of Alcoa, Kaiser, Noranda, Alcan and Pechiney.
As negotiations for new collective agreements are likely to take place for a number of these companies in the coming months, delegates at this meeting will discuss in some detail the consequences of the mergers and acquisitions in recent years, which have resulted in a marked concentration of ownership in the aluminium sector.
Those unions interested in participating in the conference should contact without delay USWA international vice-president, Richard Davis, in Pittsburgh, on Fax: (001/412) 562-2405, or Len Powell at the IMF in Geneva, on Fax: (0041/22) 308-5055, or e-mail: [email protected]
