27 April, 2000In sponsoring the art exhibition, the IMF pays homage to the contribution of metalworkers worldwide to social progress and culture.

GENEVA: In 1993, to mark the International Metalworkers' Federation 100th birthday celebration, a stunning stainless steel sculpture symbolising "International Solidarity" was inaugurated outside the headquarters building in Geneva, Switzerland. This striking metal monument, evoking the metalworkers' fight worldwide for over a century for emancipation and social justice, was made by French sculptor Jean-Claude Hug, a metalworker and trade unionist himself, who has without question mastered the versatility and expressiveness of stainless steel.
The IMF is now sponsoring an art exhibition of Jean-Claude's stainless steel sculptures, to take place at the Geneva headquarters of the International Labour Organisation. It will be open to the public on workdays between Monday, May 22, and Friday, June 9, 2000, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A party to inaugurate the exposition is being given on Tuesday, May 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Hall of the Pillars (Grande Salle des Colonnades) of the ILO, 4 route des Morillons, where the IMF would be pleased to welcome all those wishing to attend. There will be an opportunity to meet the sculptor in person.
Also on display will be silver reproductions to be worn as jewellery of some of Jean-Claude's major artworks, made by a leading Geneva craftsman, Jens Grisson.
