IMF Executive debates millennium review

GENEVA: In his latest opinion column, IMF general secretary, Marcello Malentacchi, says that the discussion concerning the millennium review at the recent IMF Executive Committee meeting was one of the most important ever.
The EC debate on the "millennium review", inaugurated at the Durban congress of the ICFTU in April 2000, focused in particular on two of the aims to strengthen the trade union movement: organising and transnational companies. "Our No. 1 priority," states Malentacchi, "is organising workers in democratic, representative and independent trade unions." Concerning the TNCs, tackling and targeting them with codes of conduct and worldwide agreements is important but equally so are national agreement systems.
