ICFTU looks for new youth coordinator

BRUSSELS: The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions is looking for an ICFTU Youth Co-ordinator. Persons who are interested to apply can send their c.v. and letter by e-mail to: [email protected]

Job description for ICFTU Youth Co-ordinator:

Duration of the contract and remuneration

The new Youth Co-ordinator will be appointed for at least one year, which is the expiration date of the three-year ICFTU Global Youth Programme. After this period, there is a possibility to extend the contract for another three years (this depends partly on the contribution of donor organisations). The starting date of the contract is 1 September 2000.
The maximum gross salary is BEF119,280 (net BEF 70.761).
Other working conditions will be communicated upon request.

Tasks of the ICFTU Youth Co-ordinator

The main task of the Youth Co-ordinator is to develop, implement and monitor the ICFTU Global Youth Programme. The development and implementation is done in close co-operation with the regional youth co-ordinators of APRO, ORIT and AFRO and the ICFTU Youth Committee.
1. Regional Projects
- To develop and implement the Regional Projects in close co-operation with the regional youth co-ordinators;
- To participate, when necessary, at (sub) regional meetings.
2. International Youth Campaigns and other International Events
- To develop annual campaigns in close co-operation with the ICFTU Youth Committee, the regional organisations and ITSs;
- To develop and distribute campaign materials;
- To prepare and co-ordinate other international youth events and activities.
3. International Youth Meetings,
- Organising and preparing the documents for the annual meeting of the ICFTU Youth Committee;
- Organising other International Youth Meetings.
4. Information and Communication
- To develop and distribute materials, such as the ICFTU Youth Newsletter, IMPACT (in co-operation with the editor), manuals and campaign materials like flyers, posters and brochures;
- To develop (in close co-operation with the press department), press releases and press packs for young trade unionists;
- To update and promote the ICFTU Youth Webpage;
- To send regular information on ICFTU Youth Activities to the ICFTU Email Youth Forum;
- To produce surveys on various youth issues.
5. Reports and fundraising
- To prepare annual reports and an annual plan of work;
- To develop a new three-year Global Youth Programme (September 2001 - August 2004) in co-operation with the regional organisations and the ICFTU Youth Committee;
- To stay in regular contact with contributing organisations and to contact other possible contributing organisations.
6. Co-operation and networks
- To further strengthen the co-operation with ITSs and other International (Youth) Organisations;
- To broaden the international network of young trade unionists.

Qualifications required

- Adequate trade union experience in the field of youth, in particular on organising and campaigning;
- Knowledge of international issues such as globalisation, youth employment and education for young people;
- Ability to draw up policy documents, reports, correspondence and to work with IT;
- Experience in networking, including through computer technology;
- Ability to represent the ICFTU as required;
- Excellent working knowledge of English. Knowledge of one other ICFTU language would be an advantage;
- A team-worker, who is also able to work independently;
- Ability to motivate and stimulate people.

In view of the ICFTU's policy to fix the age limit for youth activities at 35 years, preference will be given to candidates of 30 years or younger.
