Historical Estonian agreement

31 August, 2000The Estonian Metalworkers' Trade Union has signed a cooperation agreement with the employers' national organisation.

ESTONIA: For the first time, the Estonian Metalworkers' Trade Union (EMA), the largest industrial union in the country, has reached a cooperation agreement on national level with the employers, the Estonian Machinery Industry Union. They have, among other things, agreed to begin preparation of a master agreement for the year 2001.
The parties agreed to the following:
1. to recognise one another as public partners adhering to standards of respectful public interaction;
2. to cooperate with the goal of advancing favourable entrepreneurial environment, economic competition, stable labour relations and social security;
3. to each form collaborative committees to begin the preparation of a master agreement for the year 2001;
4. to begin talks for achieving bilateral agreements in the following areas: labour relations, labour health, labour productivity, wage policies, member education and vocational education;
5. to regularly inform one another of their views on the issues covered by this agreement, to organise joint training and education, and if necessary, to publish joint views and positions.
The historical agreement was signed on August 31, 2000, in Estonia's capital Tallinn.
