NETHERLANDS: It is with deep regret that the International Metalworkers' Federation informs all its friends and member organisations of the death of a very close friend and colleague, Henk Krul, former president of the Dutch FNV Bondgenoten. Henk passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at the age of 54 after a two-year struggle against cancer. He leaves behind his wife and four children.
A strong fighter for unity and solidarity among workers and trade unionists, Henk was in charge of the Research Department of the FNV Metal Section before the merger which founded the FNV Bondgenoten. He was elected as the first president of the Bondgenoten.
During his work as a research officer, Henk was quite active in the IMF and played an important role in IMF activities in Indonesia. Marcello Malentacchi, IMF general secretary, said: "He was a very nice man, with an incredibly kind and gentle approach. We will miss him."
The IMF extends its sincere condolences to Henk's family, friends and colleagues at the FNV Bondgenoten.
