Getting TNCs to accept basic trade union rights

GLOBAL: When the UN secretary-general launched an initiative in favour of social dialogue, transnational companies were invited to discuss how to implement codes of conduct. The purpose was, and still is, to get the TNCs to accept and implement basic trade union rights.
Marcello Malentacchi, the IMF general secretary, says that although this is a good initiative, there are some reservations from the trade unions' point of view.
