From Hungary to Canada

27 October, 1999Jean Lapointe will soon leave his post in Budapest as IMF Regional Representative for Central & Eastern Europe.

HUNGARY: Jean Lapointe and his wife Chantale Chartier will leave the IMF Regional Office in Budapest at the end of this year. Lapointe is going back to the Canadian United Steelworkers of America, USWACDN, the union he left in 1992 to go to Europe. They worked three years for the ICFTU in Sofia, Bulgaria, and two and a half years for the ICFTU in Bucharest, Romania, then went to Budapest in order to launch the new IMF office for the region.
Svetla Shekerdjieva, now education officer, will for the time being be responsible for the Budapest office.
