USA: In the early morning hours of January 14, the first day of the two-day nationwide strike at General Electric, a picketing worker was struck and killed by a police car outside a GE plant in Louisville, Kentucky.
A press statement released by the International Union of Electronic Workers-Communications Workers of America (IUE-CWA) said that the woman, an employee of GE Appliance Park, was a member of Local 761, and that the union was attempting to learn the facts concerning the tragic event.
