28 November, 2014IndustriALL Global Union has been campaigning for a living wage around the world, making sure that the workers in all of our industries are paid enough to cover their basic needs.
One of the most spectacular mobilizations has taken place in Cambodia where 500,000 garment workers toil very long hours to make ends meet.
In July this year a worker by the name of Vorn Tha died after working several days in a row, from 7 am to 10 pm. This has to stop! Cambodian unions together with IndustriALL and our global allies have mobilized to reach a considerable minimum wage increase.
A colorful global action day took place in September, and finally a 28 per cent increase was achieved. $US 128 per month is still far away from a living wage so the fight continues.
