Hisanobu Shimada
Vice-President
Hisanobu Shimada was elected as Vice-President of IndustriALL Global Union at its founding Congress on 19 June 2012.
Hisanobu Shimada is Vice-President of the Japanese Federation of Textile, Chemical, Food, Commercial, Service and General Workers’ Unions (UI ZENSEN).
Shimada began working for Toyobo Co. Ltd in 1977 and was elected branch secretary of the Tsuruga Branch of the union in 1989.
In 1993 he joined the Industrial Policy Bureau of the Japanese Federation of Textile, Garment, Chemical, Distributive and Allied Workers’ Union (ZENSEN) and was elected to the union’s Central Executive Standing Committee, in charge of textile policy, in 1996.
In 2002, following a merger, Shimada was the Chief of the Chiba Prefactural Branch of the Japanese Federation of Textile, Chemical, Food, Commercial, Service and General Workers’ Unions (UI ZENSEN). In 2004, Shimada was elected General Secretary of UI ZENSEN.
Shimada was previously President of the International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers Federation (ITGLWF), elected in December 2009, and was elected in September 2005 as President of the Asia and Pacific Regional Organization of ITGLWF (TWARO).
