Pakistan: Anger soars over frequent fatalities in mines

Global unions reach US$2.3 million Bangladesh Accord settlement with multinational brand

22 January, 2018IndustriALL Global Union and UNI Global Union have reached a US$2.3 million settlement with a multinational apparel brand to remedy life-threatening workplace hazards. The settlement, reached through an arbitration process under the legally-binding Bangladesh Accord for Fire and Building Safety, represents one of the largest payments made by a brand to remedy workplace dangers in its supply chain.

Swaziland: Union welcomes return to US-Africa trade agreement

IndustriALL, UNI and BWI sign global framework agreement with Stora Enso

19 January, 2018The three global unions today signed a global framework agreement (GFA) with the renewable materials company Stora Enso at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, in the presence of ILO Director General Guy Ryder. Observer signatures were made by the presidents of the Swedish Paper Workers’ Union, the Swedish Union of Forestry, Wood and Graphical Workers’, and the Finnish Paper Workers’ Union.

Turkey: 130,000 metalworkers determined to strike

370 Kyrgyz miners reinstated after mass layoffs

17 January, 2018Mining and Metallurgical Trade Union of Kyrgyzstan (MMTUK), an affiliate of IndustriALL Global Union, managed to safeguard labour contracts with 370 employees of the Chinese mining company Full Gold Mining in the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan. The employer agreed not to conduct mass layoffs and transfer all the benefits from the previous labour contracts.
