11 December, 2001The IMF urges for a Metalworkers' Joint protest against the South Korean Government, to be held 22 January 2002.

GENEVA: The recent sentencing and imprisonment of the Korean trade union leader Mun (president of the KMWF) once again has illustrated the anti-worker stance of the South Korean regime.

This ongoing persecution of trade union leaders and their members is not only an attack on workers in Korea, but is an attack on workers throughout the world.

The IMF therefore urges its affiliates to make the necessary preparations for a Metalworkers' Joint protest against the South Korean Government, to be held round the world 22 January 2002.

The protest is a part of the IMF-coordinated International Campaign for the immediate release of imprisoned KCTU and KMWF leaders and Korean workers.

More information about the protest will be at hand in the first half of January.
