25 October, 2001The Geneva-based labour organisation is holding its first global employment forum.

GENEVA: The International Labour Organisation is organising a major forum on employment at its Geneva headquarters on November 1-3, 2001, with the key topic to be the state of the global labour market.
A press release issued by the ILO refers to a report prepared for this first global employment forum which calls on ILO member states to "reinforce the emphasis on achieving acceptable employment outcomes, even in turbulent times." The ILO estimates that as many as 24 million job opportunities will be lost by the end of next year just because of the decline in economic growth, evident both before and after the tragic events of September 11.
