13 October, 1999The biggest union in Ghana has been forced to postpone an important conference.

GHANA: The 7th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Industrial and Commercial Worker's Union (ICU) has been put on hold. The conference was to have taken place from September 20-22 at Kumasi in Ghana. But it was postponed due to an Accra circuit court injunction that was slapped on the organisation by some aggrieved members of the union.
In a brief address, ICU General Secretary Napoleon Kpoh said: "As law abiding citizens, we have no option than to adhere to the court's order."
Napoleon Kpoh has come under virulent criticism by a section of the Ghanaian media, especially the state-owned "Daily Graphic". However, investigation shows that the rank and file of the ICU membership have ignored this criticism.
The conference is now rescheduled for October 15-17, 1999, following the crushing of the injunction order.
