IMF editors meet in Russia

RUSSIA: The International Metalworkers' Federation is holding its 11th IMF Editors' Meeting in the historic Nikolaevsky Labour Palace of Saint Petersburg, Russia, from September 16-20, 2000. Forty editors and press officers representing IMF affiliates in 13 countries will hold in-depth discussions on information policy and electronic communications within today's trade unions.
Foremost among guest speakers at the event will be Eric Lee, founder of the London-based LabourStart, the website for the international trade union movement, "where trade unionists start their day on the net." Lee, who has written numerous publications on electronic communications, most recently "The Internet Belongs to Everyone," will address the question of "The Internet and/or printed publications in the trade unions: What strategy for the future?"
The director of the ILO Moscow Office, Frank Hoffer, will give an overview of the political situation in Russia and Belarus, as well as the developments within the trade unions there.
The host country will have a strong trade union representation at the meeting.
