5 December, 1999With a click of the mouse, you can send a message of solidarity to 350 CAW members who have been served notice that their plant will close next year.

CANADA: The IMF-affiliated CAW (Canadian Auto Workers) is organising a solidarity campaign via the Internet for 350 members who work at a Molson Corporation plant in Barrie, Ontario, as well as a boycott of all Molson products. The workers have just learned that due to plant closure, their jobs will disappear on September 1, 2000. The company produces 19 different types of beer and made profits of $170 million last year.
The Barrie plant is the most productive in the entire Molson chain, thanks to the hard work, commitment and team spirit of the workers, whose average age is 46, with an average of 20 year' service to the company. Not only has the company refused to discuss a delay of the closure, it has also said that the union's members would not get preferential hiring at other Molson plants.
The CAW has put in motion a full boycott campaign of all Molson drinks, which are listed on the CAW website under "Did Molson's say Canadian?" and a special page on their website for sending messages of solidarity.
