Turkey is notorious for unsafe coal mines, with many of the mines in government hands but operated by contractors utilizing sub-standard equipment and practices.

The ICEM event is open to everyone but those interested should visit the WCSHW website for information on the entire Congress, which runs from 11-15 September. The address for the WCSHW at Haliç Congress Centre is Sütlüce Mah. Eski Karaağaç Cad., 34445 Beyoğlu, Istanbul.
